A health advisory was issued July 18, 2018 for Fernan Lake by the Panhandle Health District and the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality. Water samples confirmed the presence of blue-green algae that can produce toxins harmful to humans and animals.

The Carlin Bay pump-out will not be operational this season.
The Department of Parks and Waterways is responsible for the management, development
and maintenance of park and marine facilities owned by Kootenai County and our mission is clear:
"Provide recreational users of our parks and waterways safe, clean and suitable facilities, which best meet
their needs in the most cost-effective way possible."
Kootenai County is the largest boating community in the State of Idaho with nearly 20,000 registered
boaters and just over 44,000 navigable acres for boaters to enjoy.
