Driver's License Office
Driver's License is a division of the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department.
Idaho Department of Transportation in Boise (Driver Services) regulates
business conducted in Driver's Licenses. The Office also interfaces with
the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Social Security Administration.
To obtain a Driver's License/Identification Card, one needs a previous
license (this must be surrendered), or a certified copy of a birth
certificate and a photo ID. Proof of residency in Idaho (call the Office
for a list of acceptable documents) and a Social Security card are also
required. In addition, it is necessary to pass written and driving tests if
applying for a license. (NOTE: If a license is suspended anywhere, it must
be cleared before one can be issued in Idaho.)
To obtain a Driver's Permit, a certified copy of a birth certificate, a
Certificate of Compliance that the applicant is enrolled in school (if under
18), Photo Identification and a social security card are required. A
certified copy of a birth certificate may be obtained from the State Bureau
of Vital Statistics in the birth state. The applicant must be 17 years of
age or have had Driver Training.
Registration of sex offenders also takes place in the Driver's License Office.
